Tesla Inc. (Tesla) is an American electric car production and marketing company, founded by Martin Eberhard (Engineer) on July 1, 2003, headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, the United States.

Tesla Motors, named after electrical engineer and physicist Nikola Tesla, specializes in producing pure electric cars, including Tesla Roadster, Tesla Model S, and Tesla Model X.  Tesla Motors was the world's first electric car company to use lithium-ion batteries, launching its first electric car, the Roadster.  

From 2008 to 2012, the company sold more than 2,250 Roadsters in 31 countries.  The company began production of the Right-side Roadster in 2010 for the UK and Ireland markets, and expanded sales to Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore, as well as mainland China.  On November 22, 2016, the Company completed the acquisition of SolarCity, a solar energy company.
